Learn Tarot

I bought my first tarot deck in 1989, The Mythic Tarot by Juliet Sharman-Burke. I consider this purchase one of my most important decisions and one I am still enjoying today. At the time I purchased the deck I had just completed my undergraduate degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH); I was 21. Fast forward through a marriage, my PhD (in English), a 10 year career at UNC-CH, the birth of my daughter, and my retirement from my career profession (2007) and I am still using tarot cards, and now oracle cards, as part of my current and likely lifelong professional career.

Ever since I delved in to the cards seriously that first year and started doing readings for myself, I was amazed at how powerful the outcomes of the cards in spreads could be; and I still am … even moreso because I have read cards for well over 1,000 people since doing the work professionally in some capacity since 1992. Every reading amazes me as much or more than the ones I first explored. If you have been interested in the tarot or oracle cards and have wanted to learn how to read them, efficiently and without having to keep going back to the companion pamphlet or book that comes with them, then I can teach you how to read the cards seamlessly.

“I have been working with Philip for almost four months and in that time I have learned so much about Tarot Readings: the practical knowledge required, as well as the art and finesse of interpretation and presentation many readers often lack. No “Learn to Read Tarot” book can even come close to the plethora of tips, intellectual and emotional discussion to help me develop a personal relationship with my cards, and casual, easy learning atmosphere that Philip provides. I especially like his ability to tailor his teaching methods to my learning style, allowing me to direct our sessions based on my immediate needs. I have always been drawn to the cards, but have not, until now, had the confidence and the detailed background to really embrace the art of tarot for my own. Many tarot instructors are only capable of passing on their own specific method. Philip encourages me to adopt my own style of reading, including effective question formulation, deck choice, and what each card means to “me”. I really look forward to our weekly sessions as I come out of them not only with a sound working knowledge of my cards but a wealth of advice and healthy guidance on my own personal journey. Thank you Philip! I can’t wait for my next deck of cards!”

The process is not complicated, but it does require commitment. A tarot deck has 78 cards you need to learn, and learn confidently (oracle decks vary in the number of cards). I can teach you how to get a solid foundation for personal reading with a six session commitment that will give you a reliable learning strategy, help you determine the best deck for learning and using the cards, and get you tuned into the tarot deck concepts, mainly the Majors and Minors among the cards themselves. By the end of our introductory time together you will have the foundation needed to perform powerful and helpful readings for yourself.
